Jack C. McGowan is a member of the firm, licensed to practice in Ohio and in federal courts. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati which included co-op experience at the General Electric large jet engine facility in 1970. He attended the National Law Center at the George Washington University in Washington, DC where he graduated in 1974 cum laude with a Juris Doctor. While in law school he also served as a patent examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office from 1970 to 1974. He returned to Ohio and began practice with Baden, Jones, Scheper & Crehan, a general practice firm concentrating in insurance defense practice where he prepared and tried cases throughout southwestern Ohio for a number of insurance companies while serving the legal needs of his private clients, both individuals and corporations. Beginning in 1986 he succeeded Thomas Baden as attorney for the Hamilton City School District and currently serves as the Board’s representative to hear all cases involving appeals of student discipline to the Board. In 1992, Jim Scheper and he founded the firm of Scheper & McGowan in Hamilton, Ohio, and in 1997, upon Mr. Scheper’s intended retirement, he founded Jack C. McGowan & Associates which became McGowan & Jacobs, LLC in 2003. Upon Mike Jacobs’ withdrawal from private practice, the firm’s name changed to Jack C. McGowan, LLC in 2018.

He has resided in West Chester Township in Butler County, Ohio since 1954 and is the father of four children whose athletic teams he has, at various times, coached sponsored and advised.

He began regularly defending medical malpractice cases in 1992 and legal malpractice cases five years afterward. His trial expertise has been recognized by his admittance to the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2007. He has received the highest ranking (AV®) from Martindale-Hubbell for more than ten years. Since the beginning of his practice he has regularly defended county boards of commissioners, school boards, sheriffs and other county office holders in a wide variety of cases.

He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Butler County Bar Association, Cincinnati Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Ohio Association of Civil Defense Trial Attorneys, and is President of the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
